Overview

A full-service, tier-one automotive supplier specializing in the design and production of lighting equipment, accessories, and electronic components is seeking a Quality Control Engineer II for its Ohio facility, which houses lighting and mold design, construction, production engineering, and dedicated quality, assembly, sales, and customer service teams. This role is central to investigating and resolving quality issues, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining strong quality standards across production and new model development.

What you'll do

  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve production and/or new model development quality problems through product audits, defect trend analysis, and cross-functional continuous improvement activities
  • Investigate internal quality issues related to production, processes, and equipment using quality information gathering and statistical techniques
  • Serve as a communication liaison between internal and external groups on quality issues while maintaining company customer quality standards
  • Establish, maintain, and track quality standards to ensure consistency in production
  • Prepare PQCTs using FMEA and GPAC-V to ensure potential failure modes are properly addressed
  • Participate in process audits addressing production mold modifications, deviations from quality standards, and timely quality system audits
  • Document and communicate customer and internal product concerns, including monthly performance reports tracking production area performance
  • Analyze monthly performance reports and process data to identify improvement areas and develop improvement plans
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to confirm packaging trials meet quality standards
  • Train and mentor new engineers in a hands-on environment
  • Address other issues and responsibilities as they arise

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3-6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; Engineer III 4-7 years for the senior level
  • Working knowledge of quality tools including FMEA, PQCT, capability studies, and GD&T
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 9000 and AIAG standards
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Ability to work in a general office environment (4 hours per day) and manufacturing environment (4 hours per day)
  • Ability to travel occasionally overnight to remote locations or for training
  • Willingness to work unplanned and unscheduled overtime to meet customer deadlines
  • Ability to work in conditions involving chemicals, noise, heat, and moving or mechanical parts, with hearing protection required in specific areas

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in quality functions within the automotive supplier industry, preferably with Japanese automakers
  • Experience in a JIT manufacturing environment preferred
  • Plastic Injection molding process and process improvement experience highly desirable
