Pleasant, West Ashley, SC, Goose Creek, SC, Summerville, SC, and Walterboro, SC) | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, contract (6am-5pm, M-F, some locations may require a 6AM start, 8-hour shifts); projected duration of 3 months with potential for permanent placement

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its team on a contract basis with potential for permanent hire. This float position supports multiple locations in the greater Charleston, SC area, including West Ashley, SC, Goose Creek, SC, and Summerville, SC, and plays a key role in ensuring accurate specimen collection and patient care across the network.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Travel to multiple locations including Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, SC, Goose Creek, SC, Summerville, SC, and Walterboro, SC

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience; minimum qualifications also specify 1+ years of experience
• Pediatric and geriatric experience required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record and reliable transportation
