Location: Vista, CA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, contract with potential for permanent placement; shifts between 6AM and 6PM Monday through Friday depending on location, with rotating weekend coverage (approximately one weekend per month) | Compensation: $20.25 per hour

Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its clinical team on a contract basis, with the potential to convert to a permanent position. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting patient care through precise, courteous, and compliant laboratory practices.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test order requirements
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions against scripts for accuracy
• Package and store specimens per required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity during transport
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information and maintain accurate records
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department training sessions
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Float to other locations as needed, with mileage expenses reimbursed
• Rotate weekend coverage, typically one weekend per month

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• 1-4 years of experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation
