Associate Medical Director, Pediatrics

Location: Greater Sacramento area, CA (multiple locations) | Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 8-5 PM or 4-day 10-hour shift option

Overview

A community health center serving the greater Sacramento region is seeking an Associate Medical Director of Pediatrics to combine clinical leadership with direct patient care. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, this role oversees pediatric clinical quality, provider performance, and workflow optimization while maintaining an active outpatient pediatric practice.

What you'll do

  • Maintain high-level clinical expertise in Pediatrics and stay current with evolving standards of care
  • Monitor and evaluate pediatric clinician performance, including peer review and performance indicators
  • Assist in annual provider evaluations and development plans
  • Develop strategies to improve clinical quality and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate on the development and revision of pediatric policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Optimize EHR templates, clinical accelerators, and documentation standards
  • Monitor referral patterns and specialty resource utilization to improve access and care coordination
  • Partner with executive leadership on clinical priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission-driven clinical environment
  • Provide comprehensive pediatric care (birth through adolescence) in an outpatient setting
  • Address acute, chronic, urgent, and preventive health needs
  • Perform thorough history and physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning
  • Order and interpret labs, imaging, and specialty referrals
  • Provide culturally sensitive patient and family education
  • Maintain productivity standards while ensuring high-quality care
  • Complete timely documentation, coding, and billing
  • Respond to labs, consults, and patient messages promptly
  • Participate in continuing medical education and maintain licensure requirements

Required qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited U.S. medical school, or foreign medical graduate with ECFMG certification
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatrics residency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
  • 3+ years of post-residency experience; no new grads
  • Recent outpatient pediatric care experience, including preventive care, acute and chronic conditions, and developmental/behavioral concerns
  • FQHC or community health outpatient clinic experience required
  • Comfortable and experienced seeing approximately 3 patients per hour (20-minute appointment slots), including telehealth visits
  • Ability to complete patient charts within 72 hours
  • Proficiency in In Basket management, including patient messages, prescription refills, and lab results
  • Active, unrestricted California medical license
  • Unrestricted ability to obtain Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other payer credentialing

Preferred qualifications

  • Epic experience highly preferred
  • Familiarity with clinical quality measures, including HRSA core measures, HEDIS, and PCMH, preferred
  • Prior leadership or management experience preferred
  • Bilingual skills in English and Russian, Farsi, Pashto/Pushto, or Spanish strongly preferred; experience working with translation services and multilingual patient populations is helpful
