Overview

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a float role supporting multiple locations in the Winston Salem, NC area. This is a 3 months contract position with potential for permanent placement, ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment and enjoys variety in daily work locations.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information accurately
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine, fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, maintaining required temperature and proper containers
• Follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and communicate laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Travel between multiple locations in the area as a float phlebotomist (mileage expense paid)

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of experience
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation
• Schedule of M-F 5am-6pm, with shifts of 8 hour shift each
